Clean Sport Principles and Values
Curious about what it takes to keep sport clean and fair? Discover the key principles and values that protect the integrity of the game!
The principles and values associated with clean sport are designed to protect the spirit and integrity of sport including respecting the rules of the game, respecting your fellow competitors, fair competition, and having a level playing field. This extends to preventing intentional and unintentional doping, safeguarding the true essence of sport.
We believe in encouraging and empowering everyone in the sports community – not just the athletes, but also coaches, administrators, medical staff, and all athlete support personnel – to promote and foster clean and fair environments. We want to emphasize the spirit of sport, that is deeply rooted in Olympism – celebrating the unity of the human spirit, body, and mind, and how we can play true.
The values related to sport include:
- Health
- Ethics, fair play, honesty
- Athletes’ Rights (as set forth in the Code)
- Excellence
- Character and education
- Fun and joy of effort
- Teamwork
- Dedication and commitment
- Respect for rules and laws
- Respect for self and other participants
- Courage
- Community and solidarity
A Clean Sport environment is one where the health of athletes is protected and where athletes are provided with equal opportunity to pursue excellence without the use of prohibited substance or methods. The use of prohibited substances or methods to enhance performance is dishonest and detrimental to the overall spirit, integrity, image and value of sport and athlete’s health.
We want to preserve the integrity of sport through comprehensive anti-doping programs focused on education, awareness, and prevention; robust testing; and good governance.
