Whereabout Information and (Registered) Testing Pools

Whereabouts Information
Athletes in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) or Testing Pool (TP) must provide detailed whereabouts information to ensure they can be located for unannounced testing. This critical component of anti-doping efforts aims to maintain the integrity of sports by making athletes available for out-of-competition testing.

Submitting Whereabouts

  • Go to the address: www.adams.wada-ama.org. Use your username and password provided by your Anti-Doping Organization to enter the online database system
  • Once you have filled everything out in ADAMS and submitted your whereabouts, ensure that your ADAMS page clearly states “SUBMITTED” next to the relevant quarter (Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4), in the menu on the left under “Whereabouts”.

Whereabouts information must be submitted quarterly via the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS), a secure online platform designed to streamline the management of anti-doping activities globally. This information includes:

  • Daily Residences: Exact locations where athletes will be staying overnight.
  • Daily Activities: Including training, work, school, and competition schedules.
  • 60-Minute Time Slot: Athletes must specify a one-hour period each day between 6 AM and 11 PM when they are available for testing.
  • Travel Information: Details of any travel, including dates, flight numbers, and accommodation.
  • Additional Access Information: Such as security codes or special instructions needed to access the location.

Compliance and Consequences
Filing Failures: Occur when an athlete provides inaccurate, incomplete, or late whereabouts information
Missed Tests: If an athlete is not available during their specified 60-minute slot, it may result in a missed test. Three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period can lead to an Anti-Doping Rule Violation and a potential sanction.

Using Athlete Central
Athletes are strongly encouraged to use Athlete Central, WADA’s mobile application, for submitting and updating whereabouts. This tool simplified the process, making it easier for athletes to maintain accurate and current information.

How to Avoid Whereabouts Failure
Precision in details: Provide exact details of your location and accessibility information, such as entrance codes and specific directions within buildings.
Regular Updates: Immediately update your whereabouts information in ADAMS or via the Athlete Central app if there are any changes to your schedule or location.
Emergency Procedures: In case of last-minute changes or emergencies, use the travel function in ADAMS or communicate directly with the anti-doping agency via confidential email.

Retirement and Return to Sport
Retirement Notification: Athletes must notify the anti-doping agency as soon as they decide to retire from sport.
Return to Sport: Athletes wishing to return to competition after leaving must provide six months’ written notice before they can compete again.
